Peter Sandler
Peter Sandler has served the Marine Insurance Industry spanning a career of 45 years. He spent his first few years of training and underwriting with the St. Paul Insurance Company in Minneapolis and New Orleans. Peter was then with Marine Office of America Corporation as a Production Underwriter to service the states of Louisiana and Mississippi.
After three very successful years, he transferred to Seattle as the Branch Manager for the five-state region; he managed the underwriting, claims and service for this twelve-person operation. Six years later Peter, was employed by Willis Corroon as Vice President of Marine. In this position he facilitated the broking of marine business for Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. For the next four years, Peter was the National Sales Director for Axiom Insurance Management LLC. Axiom is a managing general underwriter and a marine wholesale facility. Peter managed the Western United States in addition to directing national sales. Peter was then an Executive Marine Underwriter at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty for the next two years. He grew the book by 22% and diversified the book of business. Peter joined ISI, a full underwriting facility comprising Hull, P&I, Cargo, and Liabilities, to grow the business and ultimately manage the entire operation.
Peter’s underwriting expertise includes Cargo, Hull, P&I and Marine Liabilities. ISI was acquired by Crum & Forster and Peter remained another four years under new management. Peter then joined Pioneer Underwriters (MGA) to open new office in Seattle and grow that business to 10M written premium. Since 2021, Peter has been employed by Core Specialty continuing to produce and underwrite Commercial Marine business.
Michael Smith
Mike Smith is the co-founder and past president of Global Marine Insurance Agency headquartered in Traverse City, Michigan. Mike retired at the end of 2013.
Mike began his career 40 years ago, is an avid boater/sailor and is a certified (CE) instructor in the field of marine insurance. He is a former board member of the National Marine Lenders Association and the former past president of the local community sailing program called TACS (Traverse Area Community Sailing).
Mike and his wife are avid cruisers throughout the Great Lakes and the Caribbean and dream of doing the Great Loop.
Mark Greenway
Mark Greenway has been with LIG Marine Managers since 2001. Mark is the President and Chief Underwriting Officer. He originally worked in the IT department, developing the line of business applications, and focused on Crew/Protection, and Indemnity Claims and their management. Then he turned his attention to underwriting starting from MEL risks and moving out to all the special risks that come into the office. In addition to helping setup and manage LIG as a Lloyd’s broker, Mark delivers webinars and educates about the exposures, liabilities, and coverages for marine employees.
Mark got his feet wet in the web development industry with DataGlyphics, in which he created an early social networking site back in the first dot-com boom. He took those skills and created proprietary software for LIG to manage risks in-house and track claims.
Mark has presented with the HIMI Annual Agency Seminar, LIG’s webinar series, and on Lloyd’s Relevance in the US Marine Market in 2023.

Ian Greenway
Ian Greenway was born and educated in England. He studied computer systems, design, and physics at London University and attended the New York College of Insurance. He is one of a handful of insurance professionals licensed in both England and America simultaneously.
Ian is the CEO of LIG Marine Managers, a specialist in Commercial Marine and Longshore MGA as well as a Lloyd's broker. Ian has worked in the Lloyd's marketplace for over 30 years.
He is also a National Faculty Instructor for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, a Certified Workers Compensation Advisor, and an Insurance Training Professional. Recognized nationally as an authority on Longshore Insurance, Ian presents at seminars countrywide and has authored two books, "Navigating Marine Insurance" and "Navigating Marine Workers Compensation."
Actively involved with the Coalition for Longshore Act Reform, Ian has testified before Congress in support of the Recreational Marine Employment Act on changes to the Longshore & Harbor Workers Compensation Act. He continues contributing to the industry as a member of numerous professional organizations.
The Certified Marine Insurance Professional (CMIP) Designation program was developed under Ian's direction as Founder of LIG Educational & Consulting Services and the International Institute for Marine Insurance Studies (IIMIS.org).
In February 2013, Ian was the honored recipient of the "Risk & Insurance® Power Broker® Award," a prestigious annual award of select, highly effective, and influential commercial insurance brokers.
