Insuring Vessel Owners
& Operators Seminar

Commercial vessel accounts are among the most misunderstood risks in the insurance market. Hull coverage, Protection and Indemnity, pollution liability, and charterer exposures each carry nuances that standard commercial lines training does not prepare agents to handle.

This two-day CMIP seminar builds the technical foundation you need to evaluate vessel owner and operator accounts, structure the right coverage, and place risks with confidence.

What You Will Learn

This seminar covers the core coverages and exposures that define vessel owner and operator accounts:

  • Hull and Machinery (H&M) insurance — how it works, what it covers, and how it is rated

  • Protection and Indemnity (P&I): the breadth of third-party liability coverage and why it is essential for vessel operators

  • Pollution liability for vessels: regulatory exposure, clean-up costs, and coverage options

  • Charterer's legal liability: understanding the risk when a vessel is chartered and who is responsible for what

  • Crew coverage considerations and the intersection with Jones Act and MEL

  • Common vessel types and how the risk profile differs across commercial fleets, passenger vessels, and specialty craft

  • How to read and evaluate a marine survey and why it matters for placement
